Bubble Wrap and a Story
So, Someone gave me the advice a week ago or so that I should be wrapped in bubble wrap to avoid all of the bruises. They are right. I fell down in a stream when we were hiking PCC Falls, and hit my face. Split my lip, and felt quite dizzy. Got about six nasty bug bites from sitting next to the stream too long.. Bruised my leg up nicley, and scraped my shoulder. Dont remember much after falling, just a few faces of the guys who pulled me out. THAT was an adventure. Anyway, that's what I think would be a good solution. Bubble wrap. Back in the saddle though!! Going to hike Lai'e Falls next week. Hopefully that is a little less...um...hazardous. Here's a lovley picture of me post fall..
Cute. Oh, it was a beautiful hike though!!
Here's a random tale...
One of my favorites actually-
THE INDIAN CINDERELLA
On the shores of a wide bay on the Atlantic coast there dwelt in old times a great Indian warrior. He had done many great and wonderful deeds. He had, a very wonderful and strange power; he could make himself invisible; he could thus mingle unseen with his enemies and listen to their plots. He was known among the people as Strong Wind, the Invisible. He dwelt with his sister in a tent near the sea, and his sister helped him greatly in his work. Many maidens would have been glad to marry him for he was well sought after because of his many great deeds. But, Strong Wind would only marry the first maiden who could see him as he came home at night. Many tried, but it was a long time before one succeeded.
Strong Wind used a clever trick to test the truthfulness of all who sought to win him. Each evening as the day went down, his sister walked on the beach with any girl who wished to make the trial. His sister could always see him, but no one else could see him. And as he came home from work in the twilight, his sister as she saw him drawing near would ask the girl who sought him, "Do you see him?" and each girl would falsely answer "Yes". And his sister would ask, "With what does he draw his sled?" and each girl would answer, "with the hide of a moose," or "With a pole".. But all of their answers were mere guesses and Strong Wind would not marry any who were untruthful.
There lived in a village a great chief who had three daughters. Their mother had long been dead. One of these was much younger than the others. She was very beautiful and gentle and well beloved by all, and for that reason her older sisters were very jealous of her charms and treated her very cruelly. They clothed her in rags that she might be ugly; and they cut off her long black hair; and they burned her face with coals from the fire that she might be scarred and disfigured. And they lied to their father, telling him that she had done these things to herself. But, the girl was patient and kept her gentle heart.
Like the other girls in the village the two sisters had tried to win the heart of strong wind, and had likewise lied and said that they had seen him. And Strong Wind knew that they had lied, and he kept himself from their sight, and they went home dismayed.
One day the chief's youngest daughter with her rags and her burned face resolved to seek Strong Wind. She patched her clothes with bits of bark, and put on the few little ornaments she possessed, and went forth to try to see the invisible one. Her sisters laughed at her, and all the people laughed at her because of her tattered frock and her burned face, but silently, she went her way.
Strong Wind's sister received the girl kindly, and at twilight she took her to the beach. Soon Strong Wind came home, drawing his sled, and his sister asked, "Do you see him?" and the girl answered "No", and the sister wondered greatly because she had spoken the truth. And again she asked, "Do you see him now?" and the girl answered, "Yes, and he is very wonderful." and the sister asked, "With what does he draw his sled?" And the girl answered, "With the Rainbow," and she was much afraid. And the sister asked further, "Of what is his bowstring?" and the girl answered, "His bowstring is the Milky Way."
Then Strong Wind's sister knew that because the girl had spoken the truth at first her brother had made himself visible to her. and she said "Truly you have seen him." And she took her home and bathed her, and the scars disappeared from her face and body; and her hair grew long and black again like the raven's wing; and she gave her fine clothes to wear and many rich ornaments. Then she bade the girl take the wives seat in the tent. Soon Strong Wind entered and sat beside her and called her his bride. The next day she became his wife and ever afterward she helped him to do great deeds.
The reason I like this one, is cause it is all about honesty. Sweet eh? The indian folk tales are the bomb.

WATCH THIS!
So, got kinda bored one day, took this picture, thought it was funny...ha ha. :)
Played a new game at FHE, (I'm the new FHE Grandma btw.) just thought I would share the experience.
So it's called pulse:
It works best if you've got at least six on both teams. So, each team sits cross-legged in a row, and then the other team comes and sits across from them. On one end, you have a ball, or something around that size to grab. On the other end, you have the person who will be flipping the coin. So everyone closes their eyes, except for the two people closest to the coin. The coin is flipped and ONLY if heads is flipped, you squeeze the person next to you on their hand. Each person then squeezes the next person's hand until it finally reaches the end where the ball is. Each person on the end tries to grab it before the other person, whoever grabs it first, wins. Fun!

I find myself getting hooked into the folk tale book I borrowed from the library... It's super good. I liked this one from the south alot. It's short, and funny.
THIS is a real good story...
BABY IN THE CRIB
John stole a pig from Old Marsa. He was on his way home with him and his Old Marsa seen him. After John got home he looked out and seen his Old Marsa coming down to the house. So he put this pig in a cradle they used to rock the babies in in them days (some people called them cribs), and he covered him up. When his Old Marsa come in John was sitting there rocking him.
Old Marsa says, "What's the matter with the baby, John?"
"The baby's got the measles."
"I want to see him."
John said, "Well you can't; the doctor said if you uncover him the measles will go back in on him and kill him."
So, his Old Marsa said, "It doesn't matter; I want to see him, John."
He reached down to uncover him.
John said, "If that baby is turned to a pig now, don't blame me."
It might be just me...But this one made me laugh. :)
I really like this one! :)

Everyone at BYUH has abandoned ship for summer so we have like 1/2 the ammount of students that we usually do. It's sort of lonesome! But that's ok, I am just fine rooming by myself for the moment! Figured out that buying a gallon of icecream actually costs less than a gallon of milk. I think I'll take that trade!
Here's a fun new game I learned how to play! It's called the paper bag game!
1. You take a paper lunch sack and open it up and sit it on the ground, opening up.
2. Everyone takes a turn trying to grab the bag in their mouths, but the only thing that can touch the ground is the bottoms of your feet, and you can only use your mouth to retrieve the bag. Needless to say, you need to be a little flexible.
3. So after you pick up the bag, you tear off the piece that you bit (no swappin spit) and replace the bag for the next player
4. After everyone takes a turn, tear off the first layer all the way around the bag under where everyone ripped, so the bag is about 1-2 inches shorter.
5. Round two starts, and the game continues like that and eliminates people who cannot reach the bag.
6. Eventually you get the bag down to barely anything, and the last person who can reach it wins.
This game got a little intesnse though. The girls got eliminated about half way through, so the boys went on for the battle to the death (we were down to 2 contestants). Eventually the bag was down to just the flat paper on the bottom, and both of them could still reach it. So, we had to find some way to put the bag lower than the ground. So, they each tried to get it while the bag was in the gutter, and they were standing on the curb. Suprisingly, someone won. Pretty fun game. Great for family night.
Also, learned the joys of sand boarding. (Jumping on a boogie board while going down a sand hill) That was memorial day fun!
Wednesday was my last final, and I actually talked my professor into raising my grade from a c to a b. I was definitley in the right though... It could also have been that I annoyed her so much, she decided that changing it would be better than arguing anymore! Not my usual practice, but effective!
So, that's whats been going on with me! I feel like blogs are sometimes comepletley self centered... Always about "I" or "me" and stuff... Oh well!
Love to most, like to the rest!

Some of the things I have learned here in Hawaii-
- The cafeteria food, no matter what they tell you, is not completely edible. Seriously, no joke.
- No matter your efforts, someone is more than likely going to be playing ukulele outside your window at three in the morning.
- The best way to kill a roach, is with a textbook...there's no coming back from that!
- Never leave your bike unlocked. "Borrowing" here means stealing most likely. And if they return it, the worry is not worth not investing in a bike lock!
- Invest in a fan. Even when you are by a window, there is no guarantee of a breeze.
- When the school catches wind of a Tsunami warning, they tell you to stay inside, even though if a Tsunami were to happen, you would most likely die...The beach being less than a quarter mile away. Head for the mountains with your brother...he knows best sometimes.
- Never get directions from someone local. They are more than likely to use landmarks to give you directions. And since most landmarks here look alike, it is pretty much pointless.
- If you are going to the beach, take as little with you as possible. The less you carry, the less you can loose...if you are me.
- There are rocks in this ocean. Do not kick them...you will bleed.
- If someone asks you to go to Walmart, GO! It's a two hour bus ride, and it's no fun going alone.
- The library has no problem if you go bare foot. Take advantage of that opportunity.
- Never carry on a private conversation anywhere in the dorms. Especially on the bottom floor. if there is someone standing outside, everyone and their brother can hear you.
- If you are having a problem with the school, calling gets you nowhere. Go and sit in that office for as long as necessary, until you talk to someone in charge.
- The first person you talk to when you need something on campus can usually help you. They just don't feel like it, and will usually refer you elsewhere until you have bounced everywhere and eventually give up. :)
- Always take the hula class. Even if you cant dance, it's fun to pretend.
- Dont bother curling your hair... it doesn't stay and it ends up not cute.
- Never watch Jaws, or the new Soul Surfer movie if you ever plan on swimming in the ocean again any time soon
- There IS a time difference between you and your family. dont forget that...
- Dont walk off campus by yourself at night. Make a call to someone you know, or who doesnt mind being woken up at all hours of the night...my case...Mimi!
- When they say they are doing a "white glove" check in your dorm... Take that very seriously. they count even clean clothes against you.
- If you are a klutz, remember that before you ride your bike anywhere near anything that can cause you harm
- Remember that you are in Hawaii, speed has nothing to do with it. Slow down, relax, and try not to resent those who are going slowly.
- Most of your roomates will be awesome.
- The slang words you use at home, sound really funny to people here. You will also learn about ten different ways to say hello before you finish day one here.
- When someone says, "howzit", you're really not supposed to say, "Fine! howzit with you?" Really, you just say "howzit" right back.
- Have so much fun! you are in Hawaii for peetes sake!
Anyhoo, I am sure there are more things, but as always, I forget. :) Love you family.

The Man and the Rock
It all happened on a warm spring night: I was sleeping in my bedroom after a long day of work. when suddenly the bedroom was filled with light and the Savior was in front of me. He said that he had a great work for me to do, and he showed me a big rock. after that, he explained to me that the work would be to push against the rock with all my strength. That was the Idea. For many days I tried hard, day after day, my shoulders pressing against the cold surface of the rock.
Pushing with all my strength, I retired to my bed in the same state; TIRED, DEPRESSED, WITHERED, FEELING that they day was spent in vain. Seeing that I started to show signs of discouragement, Satan decided to enter the scene, and put thoughts in my mind such as: "Why an I torturing myself like this? I've been pushing this rock everyday and I haven't even budged it one millimeter." i started to think that my work was impossible: that I wasn't worthy: that I was a useless servant, because I couldn't move the rock. these thoughts depressed me even more, so I started thinking: "Why do I punish myself like this, I will only make a minimal effort. That will be enough." That's what I was planning to do until I decided to take my sorrow to the Lord. "Lord" I said "I've been working hard for a long time in your service. i put all my strength in the work you commanded me to do. Even though after all this time, I couldn't move the rock not even a millimeter. What is wrong? Where am I failing?"
The Lord answered, "My son, a long time ago when I asked you to serve me, you accepted. I commanded you to push the rock will all of your strength and that you have done. Never once did I tell you that I hoped you would move it. No, not alone. the work was for you to push, and now you come to me without strength, convinced that you have failed, and ready to leave it. But....have you really failed? Your arms are stronger, your back is strengthened and bronzed from the sun, your hands are calloused from the constant pressure, and your legs more firm. Through the opposition you have grown. Your ability to over come is stronger than before, and even though you didn't move the rock, you come to me with a broken heart and your body faith. My beloved son, I will move the rock. Your work was to be obedient and push, exercise faith and trust in my wisdom, and that my beloved son is what you have done." -WoongHyun Jason Choi

MEET MY ARCH ENEMY!!!
Me and my nemesis, locked in an eternal battle of strength and will. She will win some, and I will almost win others. Will the fighting ever end? Only time will tell. Just the very sight of her brings terror to my heart. I would rather be locked in my room than engage in battle once again. However, circumstances do not seem to permit that. We must meet, at least daily, to fight out who will win for the day, and who is the loser. To look at her, you would never assume she was a villain, however, looks can be deceiving. She actually is very beautiful on first glance, but, just do not approach.... The damage is incalculable. She is so sneaky, and spiteful, she will use everything surrounding you to bring you pain and heartache. Nowhere is safe in her presence. Her tyranny goes almost unquestioned by anyone. Until maybe one day, there will be a brave soul with strength and courage enough to bring her down into submission. Please, let that day come soon! I do not think that I can take much more of this battle...She seems almost invincible, however, I can see that the challenges of the days are taking their toll on her, she is getting weak spots, however, they are few. I regret the day we met, and from that day forth, I have not been able to go anywhere without a glance in her direction, double checking my safety. Please, someone help me?!

Hello Culture Night!!!
BYUH Has an awsome culture performance night! There's about twenty different culture clubs here on campus, and each gets the opportunity to perform a dance from that country or culture. It's awsome! I would put up the pictures of the performance, but most of them are fuzzy, and dont do the performances justice. So just a couple of pictures of me at the performance, and a few friendly faces!

This is me and a few friends waiting so patiently for the four hour performance to begin....

We got a little bored....
My big brother

Aaannndd... My feet, and an umbrella. Did I mention that it has been raining here A TON!!!?
So, that was culture night....Wayyy fun. Maybe just one picture of a performance....
Kiwi Club, from New Zeland, did awesome. Got a few friends in here!!

TSUNAMI! warning....
So, last night at around nine pm HST, we got a warning that a tsunami might be headed to the coast of Hawaii. We were all instructed to pack a bag, and stay in the second floor of the dorms. So, naturally, i went outside to look for someone. :) I did come back, and packed my little bag, took a shower, and waited patiently with my friend for a Tsunami to hit. It was interesting to speculate, and watch the news show pictures of little three feet waves saying that there were more to come that could vary in height and damage size. To me, it was a good excuse to not do homework, and hang out in my room waiting for eminent "death". I do not know what it is about me with disasters or emergencies, but I all of the sudden, get really calm, and think logically. SUPER wierd. I mean, if it is something I have alot of time to worry about, I will worry my little heart out, and wring my hands till they're raw. But when it comes to an unexpected emergency, cool as a cucumber. Anyhoo, so campus was closed this morning, but opened up at around ten, life is back to normal. I think the place that took the most damage on BYUH campus, was my room...It's a mess! I love that my family calls and texts me most of the night to make sure I am ok. I love that they love me enough, to call the school, and ask when it is open, and if classes are back in session, and watch the news and make sure what is actually going on because I am a dunce when it comes to finding true information. (Thank you Mom! :0) I just hope things in Japan get better soon.. It breaks my heart to see that footage. Thank you everyone for checking on me. Love you!

Welcome to my klutzy life.....
So, for anyone who doesn't already know, me and the bushes on BYU Hawaii campus have gotten very well aquainted these past couple of months. Me and my bike seem to have regular run-ins with the bushes.
1.) Going into my dorm, pulled to a stop, couldnt reach the ground to lean over. completley fell over into the bushes in front of my dorm.
2.) In front of the married student housing...This is the best one... I took a corner a little too hard, hit the handicapped parking pole, fell off my bike, into the bushes, my bike fell on top of me, and then the pole that I ran into fell on top of me as well. So, I am trapped on my back in the bushes with a bicycle and a handicapped pole on top of me....NOT cute!
3.) Had a really heavy back pack due to a large class load that day, took off from the curb (I am learning!) And then I realized, that I had put the seat up WAAYY to high. So, I tried to dismount on the pavement, completley fell over in front of a whole bunch of pedestrians and a semi delivery truck. AND my laptop was in my backpack.
4.) Comming out of my dorm room one morning, I tried to get on my bike, missed, and fell into the bushes again....about ten feet away from the other one. I now have two dents in the bushes infront of my dorm, both of which daily remind me that I am a Klutz.
5.) Trying to go into the mail room to pick up my mail. Tried to stop the bike, lost my footing, and fell into a planter, where there was no bush to be found. (Turns out, i prefer the Bush!)
There have been so many other non-bike accidents that it is not even funny! I knew I was definitley uncoordinated before, but hawaii seems to intensify it about ten fold!
Other funny things that have happened to me:
-A few days ago, a psychopath lizard attacked my foot...There was ALOT of screaming...
-I went to a place called Bikini Beach...Turns out...It is completely crab infested. It was super creepy, they were popping out of the sand...LIKE DAISIES!!
-Geckos are over running our dorm...I can hear them call to eachother at night...wierd.
So, things have been pretty much awsome here! I love it! I love that I am going to college here! i miss my family a bit... Just a bit though. i dont know if anyone reads this blog anymore, but I still like to write on it anyway. <3

Welcome to my new home....

This is me, chilllin in my room. Loving all things about Hawaii.

Me and my roomate Julia. Some people say they do not like their roomate...Mine is awsome.

This is me at the Beach, soaking up the rays...Trying to get rid of that awsome Farmer Tan. :)
So, This is my new Hawaii Life. I love it here. Doing so well, and learning lots. The only downside to me being here, is that my clumsyness seems to be intensified. I have fallen into four bushes, one planter, sliced my foot open kicking a rock in the ocean, almost fallen about a million times, The worst one was when I ran into a pole with my bike, fell into the bush with my bike, pole landed on top of me, thereby stuck in the bush laughing my head off. I will probably win the "clumsiest" award on graduation day. Love this life that I'm living right now. Love the people I've met. Overall, I'm extremely happy here! I will post more pictures and figure out how to post a video. Love everyone so much.
Love,
Mary Hannah

WELCOME TO PARADISE!!!
Okay, so I'm all landed and checked in and semi-unpacked.... No homesickness yet, however, I feel that it is comming eventually. I know I'm in Hawaii, but, i cant see a darn thing cause it's dark outside! I keep pinching myself to double check that I am actually here! So excited!! Anyway, I went on the "tour" in the dark, and saw the GORGEOUS Temple, and am currently on byu campus. Church is at 8am...that might be a problem. ;) I am just so happy to have finally gotten this thing that we've all been working towards. Just a thank you to everyone, I know everyone has helped me get here, so I thought you should get some credit. I do have a webcam, so if you'd like to chat, we can make that happen. Also, I now own a digital camera, so now my blog can actually be somewhat illustrated. Once i figure out how to do that...Believe it or not, I am actually on my way. I'm still waiting to be woken up. It probably doesnt help that I watched inception on the plane ride...So I'm a little concerned that my dreams have been invaded....;)Anyway, just thought I would give a little update. This marks day one in my hawaii adventure.
Love you everyone!!
Okay, so I'm all landed and checked in and semi-unpacked.... No homesickness yet, however, I feel that it is comming eventually. I decided my blog was a little too pepto-pink, so I changed it up. :) life is pretty good right now. I'm workin three jobs and taking two online courses this summer, so I'm keepin pretty busy! I am trying really hard to earn enough to go to school at BYUH in the fall. But, I am thinking I might have to defer a semester because I cant save enough. It all hinges on if I get scholarships or not, so nothing is set in stone. By waiting until the winter semester though I can keep saving all through the fall, because i am pretty sure I will have a job, possibly full time. i can avoid a huge christmas plane ticket, and for sure get to come home for christmas. By saving up this fall, I can earn enough to where I wont have to work while I am in school, which is a huge plus. i called BYUH and they said they could defer me to winter no problem. I sorta wanted to tell everyone at once, and get it over with. This is something I have been thinking about these past few weeks, and I think it is good to have this back up plan. My number one goal is to get there this fall, but if that doesnt happen, the alternative is not the end of the world. Yesterday, I was really down about this being a huge possibilitiy, but I think someone out there loves me, and knew how down I was. Someone donated a laptop to me, a HUGE load off my mind. It is this cute compaq computer with everything I ever wanted from a laptop. I dont know who you are, but I wanted to thank you. I figure you are a friend, so I thought this might be a good way to say thanks. i know everyone is working very hard to get me to school in the fall, everyone has pitched in so much, and I am so grateful. I have the best family in the whole world, and anyone who says theirs is, is totally lying. :) I love my sisters, they are the best friends I ever had and they mean everything to me. (Yes alicia you are included!) I love my brothers, they are the best brothers ever. I love my Dad, he helps me without a second thought, and is always there when I need him. I love my grandmother, who puts up with my short term memory loss, and lets me live in her house, she is the toughest lady I know. Lastly, I love my mom. She pretty much is my best friend without whom, I most likely I wouldnt be standing. When i told her about defering a semester, I started with, "Mom, i have some news. I am pregnant, and i might have to defer a semester." She said that wasnt even funny but laughed anyway. I figured if I distracted her with fake bad news, the real bad news wouldnt be so bad in comparison. Good plan right? Anyway, just feeling grateful. :)
